How to Authenticate & Legit Check Trapstar Tracksuits

Introduction

With Trapstar getting more and more popular, it also means that fakes are also entering the market as well, and some of them are actually quite good! I'm not going to say amazing, because they're still quite shit and easily spottable, if you know what you're looking for. But no threat, I will show you exactly how to spot the replicas.

To make this comparison as best as possible, I intentionally purchased a replica Trapstar product. In the below image you can see the real and the replica, the real is on the left, and the replica is on the right.

Print & Label

Key points we can spot from this photo are;

Packaging - The packaging on the replica tracksuits are awful, you can see the the tracksuit is not tightly sealed, the packaging is baggy. The packaging on the replica pieces also are slightly "cloudly", they're not completely transparent.

Labels - I would love to talk about the labels on the packaging some more, but the labels on AUTHENTIC Trapstar pieces changes very frequently. So it's best to not pay attention to what the label says, but to the print quality and the font on the label.

As you can see on the photo, the quality of the print of the fakes is a lot thinner and also a slightly different font in some cases. But please do not pay attention to what the labels says, but to the quality and font of the print. As even on authentic Trapstar Chenille pieces this can vary through seasons.

Chenille Pattern

Now we're onto the exciting bit. The infamous Trapstar Chenille Decoded logo on the tracksuits. This is why most people buy Trapstar, which is also why it's the most common replica on the market. There's a few bits that are off here and I will go through them one by one.

The Chenille Pattern / Stitching. AKA the "Fluffy text". If you look closely at the wording "TRAPSTAR" on both of the tracksuits, you will see that on the real tracksuit, the text is a lot more fluffy, and it's a lot more rough around the edges. The replicas have not got this perfected yet, the chenille on the replicas are too smooth around the edges, there should at least be some rough text and occasionally some cotton overhanging the letter. The text is also not fluffy enough, if you zoom in on both photos you will be able to see what I mean.

The Colour of the Chenille. While this isn't always obvious, as different colourways are better than others, in this example you can see that all of the colours are wrong, All the way from the red to the white, the colours are just simply off.

Here's the real and the fake again, but this time from an angle. Viewing it from an angle can sometimes help determine the authenticity, as it allows you to easily see the thickness of the lettering. As you can see from the image, the fluffiness and the thickness of the letters is much more than the replica piece.

Size Tag

Now, this is something I never actually check to be honest, as usually you can get all the information you need from the Chenille fluffy text. However, you can see that the size tag on the authentic piece is almost the same size as the "Trapstar" tag. In addition to this, on the real piece, the text that says "TRAPSTAR, IT'S A SECRET" almost covers the entire size of the tag.

Now, if we take a look at the replica side, the size tag that says "S", is very small, leaving a lot of blank space at the bottom. If we then inspect the "TRAPSTAR, IT'S A SECRET" tag, you can also see that there is a lot of blank space at the top and bottom of the tag.

Wash Tag

Once again, this is something I don't really pay attention to too often, as like I said before. You can get all of your information from the chenille pattern as I mentioned earlier. But sometimes, you may want to take a look at the wash tags. There isn't really anything obvious here, the fake is a little bit faded/lighter in print. But, something I have been seeing quite often is what I think is a "staple". A lot of the replicas I have seen actually have the wash tags stapled in, as I have circled. If your tracksuit has a staple in it, boy do I have some bad news for you.

Back Wash Tag

Just like the labels I spoke about on the very first point, here we are only inspecting the quality of the text, not what the text says. The location and PO text changes per season and per tracksuit, so these won't always be the same. But as you can see from the quality of the print, the replicas aren't quite as bold, or dark. They're a little bit pixelated and blurry when compared to the authentic piece.

Insideout

Now this doesn't work for all tracksuits, it will only work for the grey ones. But as you can see from the photos above, the colour of the inside tracksuits from authentic to replica are very different. Authentic tracksuits have an off-white colour to them, while the fake ones are a bright white. Another thing worth mentioning is the overall quality of the tracksuit. They should be extremely soft and stretchy, whereas the fakes were nowhere near as comfortable, and much rougher on the touch. You can also see the inside stitching on the replicas is not very good, there's a lot of leftover pieces of white cotton hanging on the stitching. While this is still happening on the real, it is nowhere near as bad as the fakes.

Summary: Overall, the absolute best way to spot a replica is from the chenille pattern/fluffiness. Fakes just cannot get this right, and they are obvious giveaways. Another thing that is worth mentioning, that tracksuits DO NOT come with any tags whatsoever. So if your tracksuit has came with a Trapstar tag, just throw it in the bin.

I'd also like to mention, please only buy from a reputable seller, or from Trapstar direct. The reason I use my own photos and business cards for all my pictures is to show people my items are authentic, as well as proving I actually have the item in hand. No seller is going to have every Trapstar tracksuit in every size, it's just impossible.
